DORKY DIPLOMAT DOWN UNDER YEAR IN REVIEW YEAR 2: ELECTRIC KANGAROO

Big Time

So this is a thing in Australia: scattered along roadsides all around the country are giant sculptures of...stuff.  I was lucky enough to pass by a few of these bad boys while on official trips and goddam if they don't inspire me to roam Aussie roads Mad Max style and go searching for some more. Y'all of course remember The Big Golden Guitar and The Big Prawn...

...but I don't believe I've introduced you to The Big Banana and the Big Merino.

in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future they'll be worshiped as gods i'm telling you

Jacaranda!

Intermittent heavy rains caused petals to fall off a bit quickly this year, but there were still enough pretty blooms to spot around the city.

and yell JACARANDA...DRINK! when you do

Hot Dates

The LLDD-Hyphen-L and I try to regularly sneak-in brunch/lunch dates while the LLDD-Baby is in school or dance class which makes us a "hot" kind of couple and a "BWAAAAAAHAHAHA LLDD-Baby you still have to go to school!" kind of parents. As a bonus, I'm able to keep up to trend with happening eating spots in Sydney through the LLDD-Hyphen-L's subsequent social media posts. (shoutout #spicealley #wildsage #meetmica #qvb #willoughby #theivy and all the other places that indulged us)

(Ok fine, sinasama rin namin paminsan-minsan yung bata. But don't for a second think, kiddo, that you can out-OOTD or -instaworthy yo mama)

#influencer

Algorithm's Gonna Get You

If my reporting is the reason why this news site's mind-altering stock photo-headline algorithm has practically gone dark this year, then I owe the world a profound apology.

but, c'mon, it was getting really glitchy in its last days

Jumpshotaroo Year Two

The LLDD-Baby thinks she's grown up and a big girl now so the #jumpshots of old won't do for her anymore. They now have to have an instagram playground backdrop or involve cartwheels or both.

#showoff

No More Punny Business

As duly noted in last year's Dorky Diplomat Down Under Year in Review, many Aussie business names are not so much a play on words as on the nose accounts of what you're getting and what you're getting yourself into.

On second thought...I take it back.  I'm not sure what to make of this.
