Right after OV and right before winter we had a small window to sun and sea staycay so we headed over to Coogee, a beautiful beach just 8km southeast of Sydney. According to my dodgy internet research, "Coogee" means "smelly place" or "stinking seaweed", is pronounced sorta like Mazinger-Z's pilot, and has no known connection to one-hit wonder Kajagoogoo. Now all of that negativity is somewhat undeserved, because the place is genuinely gorgeous and scenic and happening.
Some more reliable internet digging in fact lists Coogee as the top beach in Sydney and one of its hippest, happiest suburbs.
