CATHEDRAL COOL

I haven't had a chance to sing the praises of St. Mary's Cathedral yet, and that's unforgivable. From the first day I arrived in Sydney, I took note of it's significant profile, reassured that it could tag-team the Sydney Tower in taking down a kaiju.


Up close and personal, however, the place is less imposing guardian of the city and more big comforting friend to everyone.


Even as you step out and pull back, you can feel the extent of it's watchful gaze and warm embrace, from the families in the plaza right in front...


...to the swimmers and ballers in the rec centre further below...


...and, yes, even up to the creepy ibis.


But the cathedral really shines at Christmastime, when it lets its gorgeous face be a canvas to dazzling light and video shows.
