I'M DOWN WITH THE YOUTH

Australia seems to frequently invite and actively involve foreign missions in activities of international graduate students going to or coming out of the country, and the Consulate seems to frequently send me as representative to those bright young kids' events.

(it's actually a bit depressing that I'm now so old graduate students mano and call me tito, yet here we are)

Classroom-in-the-Field

The University of Sydney has an awesome-sounding program that puts several of their Public health students in study placements in the Philippines from December to January. The Consulate was happy to brief them on what to expect, such as giving up on any diet goals over the Philippine holiday season.

University of Sydney International Students Recognition Rites

Speaking of USyd, they have a special ceremony just for their international sponsored students, and the Philippines was very well represented, obvs. It was an emotional, happy occasion, enhanced by my first time to see the school's gorgeous hall and it's Hogwarts/X-mansion vibe.

New Colombo Plan

The NCP is a signature initiative of the Australian foreign office that promotes Australian undergraduates studying or undertaking internships in the Indo-Pacific region, including many in the Philippines. If everyone was as funny and charming as the floppy-haired math prodigy NCP alumnus who spoke at the event, the world would be a better place.

Kent Institute ceremonies

Wins all around! A Filipina receives the school's Student Leadership Award(!) for her excellent work both inside and outside the classroom(!), and the inspirational message is delivered in song(!) by a faculty member(!).

I stand corrected, the world already is a better place. Now stop calling me tito.
